Just Be Enough: Self Portrait

This week, my sister-friends at Just Be Enough asked us to choose a self portrait out of our picture library and discuss how it reflects your personality, shows what you’re thinking, or how you’re feeling.

I took this as I walked out of the Sparklecorn party at BlogHer a few weeks ago.

BlogHer is a gigantic, amazing blog conference attended by thousands of women. This is their 8th year, and the conference was held in NYC. Each year there are several BlogHer hosted parties: Queerosphere, The People’s Party, Social Fiesta, Come As You Are, Sparklecorn, and CheeseburgHer. I attended the 7th annual BlogHer conference in San Diego last year and Sparklecorn was my favorite party. This year CheeseburgHer stepped up and tied with it.

So. much. dancing.

I love to dance. LOVE.

I love being at BlogHer where there are thousands of women who write to express themselves, use social media, and are at the conference not just to learn, but also to celebrate. The dances are a safe place where only a few men mingle, and otherwise, it’s an all girls party. No one cares what you wear, no one cares how you dance, no one cares if you scream the lyrics, or shut your eyes while you dance and just feel the vibe. I look forward to it all year.

I look at this picture and see confidence, sass, joy, and openheartedness. I asked some of my friends what they see, and they used words like genuine, open, kind, sexy, mischievous, fun, radiant, positive, and effervescent.

Last year I was more heavily burdened with what life had thrown at me, still living under the same roof with my ex, yet legally separated. BlogHer 2011 was a wonderful escape for me, but no picture taken last year could adequately reflect what was going on inside me. I was still deep behind a facade.

This year, I got so many compliments on how happy and vibrant I seemed in comparison to last year’s conference, and this picture really captures that. It makes me happy to see that my inner joy can be reflected in a photograph.

I’d love it if you’d participate and link up a photo of yourself! Here’s the link:
